On a Mission

Debbie and I are back from our trip to Mexico. As much as I needed some R & R- my favorite part of the trip was visiting the people of Guanalapana, a squaters village on the sourthern part of Isla Mujeres. We were invited to deliver the 50 some pair of shoes by 2 American missionaries -Greg and Natalie- who live on the Island (more about them in a later post)
This is a proud grandmother who has picked up a pair of shoes for a family member.
Because we carried the shoes in a big garbage bag, I had to dump them on the dirt floor to pair them up. I asked the children to help me pair up the shoes. We gave first choice to the family that invited us into their home. Soon, this room would be wall to wall children looking for a pair of shoes to fit their feet.

Debbie blessing a little girl with some Crocks.

This is Lily. She was very sweet and we were able to converse in spanish. She told me that some day her daddy was going to buy her a golf cart just like the one that Debbie and I rented.
(Our golf cart was a huge hit with the chidren.) Once we ran out of shoes to give away I took the kids for a ride.
I pray this is the first of many trips. I am already looking to get to the stores to purchase more shoes before the summer stock is gone. If anyone would like to donate shoes for the chidren please let me or Debbie know and we will make sure that the shoes get there. I am also going to be collecting matchbox cars for the boys and headbands for the girls. I will post more pictures in the next few days.

A princess party

My Niece's daughter turned 2 yesterday. Isabella, Toby and I headed to my sister's house for a princess party. We had so much fun making candy necklaces, eating yummy finger foods, and breaking open a pinata. Doesn't she have the face of a little cherub!
This is a picture of Isabella in her princess outfit. The hat was a hit- it came from the dollar store!

A Happpy Birthday from such great friends and family

Look at this table! Doesn't it look like I went to my favorite shabby shop and bought myself a bunch of goodies? Nope! My girlfriends and family know me so well! These were some of the beautiful things I got from some of the most gracious loving friends a girl could have. Not shown is a beautiful bracelet that my mom and Dad gave me along with "PINK" Adirondack chairs for my garden. My sister gave me a great grilling basket and a few more little surprises. In the back of the table is a beautiful pink glass tray from Theresa, Make-up and travel bag from Debbie, Potpourri , bucket, lace place mats, and a beautiful pink table cloth from my friend Chris. 3 tin hanging buckets, magnets, and picture from Carrie and Ashley. Remember in a previous post I talked about finding the perfect picture or mirror for above my fireplace??? Well, my good friend Genevieve bought me this beautiful shabby chic mirror!!!! I have not been able to hang it yet but it is so beautiful. The picture does not give it justice.
I was going out today to get some makeup and makeup brushes for my trip to Mexico until......... I heard a knock at the door. It was Craig bringing a package from him and Carol and what do you think was in the box??? MAKE-UP for my trip to Mexico and brushes too! She didn't even know that I needed them.

This is how the box was wrapped! YUMMY pink glittery box with a pink bow!

Not pictured yet is my trip to Mexico which was given to me by my good friend Debbie! We leave on Tuesday. Thanks Deb- I am so looking forward to spending 4 days with you- what will talk about for 4 days??? LOL!!
Thanks to all my gal pals who make my life so sweet and special. I love you all. And to my family who love me unconditionally and with every ounce they have in them.

Ephesians 5

In my quite time this morning I came across this verse. " Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. Then you will sing Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, making music to the Lord in your hearts. And you will always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ" How wonderful would it be if we all allowed the Holy spirit to control us. when we do, nothing ugly can come out of us, only pure music, music to Gods ear. When the music is sung it is only natural that the Lord would hear it and all those around us. In the vesrse's just before this one the Lord is telling us to be careful in how we live and not to act like fools. How many times have I been a fool this past week? Have I made the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days? Scripture also says, "Don't act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do." We are not perfect but scripture says we must TRY and understand what God is wanting us to do. I know I will be taking time to mediate on what is good and trying to understand what the Lord would have me do today to bring him glory. Only then will the music be heard.

Love,

Adrienne

Bloomers!

I don't know what it is about bloomers that make me smile. I just love them and recently have added some to my wardrobe. They are comfy, romantic, sexy and just plain old fun. I am making a few pair to wear under my dresses (those of you who deal with chaffing- know why these are needed) I have a few pair that I wear to bed. The two that I am showing I sewed for my sister. This is the backside. The pocket is made out of a dinner napkin.
This one turned out to be my favorite of the two. The fabric is so delicate and soft. If you click on the picture you can see the beautiful lace that is around the bottom of the pants.

This is a close up of the ruffle around the leg-it is two tiered which I thought was cute.

My first Etsy purchase

This is a pillow I got from Etsy. I was not only impressed with the pillow but how it came all wrapped up with a beautiful card from the woman who made it. I dont know how these people get away with charging so little! The pillow says,"In God We Trust" and is made out of burlap. I know it is going in the family room but not sure where yet. It isnt the softest pillow in the world it is more for decoration. Here is the link to the woman who made the pillow:

fooling around

I am fooling around with my blog background and not real happy with it but I needed a change. I will have to fool around with it more later. I really am too addicted to all of this!

Little side table

This is a little side table that I got from a freind. It was very dark and did not match my room so, of course I painted it. I will have to post the after pictures later- the same freind who gave me the side table gave me the PERFECT mirror to go over my fireplace. As soon as Mark hangs it I will take a picture of all of it. Isnt it cute! I put some magazines, a tea lamp, and some tea cups in it when it was all done.

the before and after of the fireplace

I found this fake fireplace at my favorite junk shop. It was almost all white and had great appliques on it. BUT I really wanted it ALL white so I took it outside and painted it (with my favorite spray paint of course!) Here it is finished. I originally had it at an angle on this wall but hated it that way. When you put it at an angle there was a lot of wasted space not to mention a hole behind it. I wanted to be able to hang a picture or mirror above it so...... I put it against the wall. I tried to create a Little "nook" on this end of the room. Now, you can plop in that big comfy wicker chair and read a book or drink a cup of tea.
To see it in more detail click the picture. The picture above the fireplace is temporary until I find the perfect picture or mirror. I had it laying in my "got to make something out of this pile" so, I grabbed it for now. The wreath in the middle of the old window is the sea shell wreath that I made a few weeks past.
Coming soon- the little end table to go with it all.

Best spray paint ever

So this is it. This is what makes me want to jump up and down. If you have known me long enough you know that I always have a can of white spray paint in the house. If something I buy or have is the wrong color-no problem- a can of spray paint in my favorite color works miracles! I came across this brand at Home Depot the other day and decided to give it a try. I LOVED IT! It does not run and it covers great. It has a nice sprayer (not one of those little ones that pop off) but a nice fat one that doesnt hurt your finger after holding it down for long periods of time. click on the picture to read the label. It comes in all kinds of colors and also a primer.

Shabby Chic Tray

Someone gave me this "tray" I am not sure what it is used for- I think it is meant to be put on the dresser for your perfume bottles. I knew right away that I would turn it into a tray. All I needed was some spray paint and glass knobs.
This is the tray after I spray painted the ugly gold white. I will have to show you the spray paint I used later because it was such a great product! If you click on the picture you can see the pretty glass knobs on the bottom of the try. I used e6000 glue to make them stick.

Just another view of the finished tray. I used two coats of primer and two coats of white flat spray paint.

The tray was a gift for a freind who is turning her porch into a place just for her. Her plans are to Shabby chic the porch and who better to help her out than the queen of white spray paint! I tell you girls- white spray paint is the bomb!

pink salad tongs???

Like I said yesterday, I dont pass anythig up that is pink without taking a second glance. I was in Marshalls when out of the corner of my eye I see something pink- there was a woman in my way so I waited until she was done looking and then went in for the kill-LOL-
When I realized what I saw were pink salad tongs and they were on sale for 7.00- They had to come home with me. I was just thinking the other day that the salad tongs I had bought not to long ago were not well made and falling apart already- I knew I would have to replace them soon. The pink ones are made by "Kitchen Aid" and are very sturdy- I thought the sale price was still a lot of money for salad tongs but originally they sell for 15.00 so, I figure it was a deal!

Swag Crazy!

Here is another fabric swag the I made for my girlfriend's one year old daughter. I hope she doesn't read this post before I get the chance to give it to her. The charms came from Michaels. The little pink balls I got in the jewlery section and the inital "A" was in their dollar bin. I love the "A" because it is outlined in little white pearls.
close up of the swag- I loved this one so much I decided to make another one for my kitchen window which I have turned into the "SWAG WINDOW" from now on I will put a swag in the window and change it out from time to time.

Side view of the swag.

More swags!

This is a paper swag that I made for a friend out of scrapbook paper and embelishments. I really like the way it came out and of course it was very simple. Click on the picture to see it up close.
This is a close-up of some of the triangles on the swag The paper and embelishments that I started out with.
