In Haiti

Hi,

Well, they made it to Haiti. The entire team is safe and even attended a funeral today. Tomorrow they will be going to church and then doing some visiting. Should be a semi- easy day for them and hopefully they will be able to get some rest.

Please continue to keep the team in your prayers.

Latest update on Joey and team

THIS IS THE LAST UPDATE WE HAVE OF JOE-I TYPED IT WORD FOR WORD FROM GEORGE ONE OF THE TEAM MEMBERS.

" Well now that I am up, we got to the border late, we were told while on our way we would be able to cross-not so. The millitary soldiers tried to shake us down. We would not let them, started praying, Joe started playing, we started singing, started witnessing, broke out the Oreo's, they broke out benches, Codo came walking out of the darkness and took us to a hotel, its only day one. Love ya"

Codo is the pastor of Salt and Light Church in Cap-Hatien whom the team is parterning with in Haiti.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR JOEY AND THE TEAM. I WILL POST UPDATES AS TEHY COME IN.

Frugal Friday

Making the food last! It is hard living in a house with 5 growing boys AND keep the food budget down. Something that I have been doing for a while in our house is to not cook dinner every night! Actually, that is not true. What I try to do is use breakfast food for dinner. I will make waffles, pancakes or eggs (egg omelets, scrambled egg sandwiches, french toast etc.) Breakfast foods tend to be cheaper and filling. We do not normally eat these foods for breakfast becuase they take to long to prepare. We eat cereal and oatmeal every morning during the week.

If I decide not to do a breakfast for dinner then I might decide to do a sandwich night. We will eat tuna, egg or chicken salad on homemade bread with salad. This is a treat because I don't usually make those things for lunch.

This is a really great way to save on the food budget. I great food stretcher for those weeks that you have to keep things tight.

He's on his way

Joey got up at 1:30 am to clean the car off. Daddy got up too- the wind and snow were not helping much.

They were on time to meet the team that left for JFK around 3:00 am unfortunatly, his plane was 4 hours delayed and they had to sit in the airport and just wait. I forgot to tell him to bring a book in case that happened.

He is due to land in Dominic Republic around 4:00 and then from there they will drive into Haiti. (not sure how long that takes)

Mom is a bit somber today, missing her boy, but knowing he is exactly were God wants him. He bought pop tarts for breakfast and lunch for today- what is a mom to do??? I had suggested he get lunchables. I guess the pop tarts were more appealing- LOL

If we hear anything else, I will let you know.

Frugal Friday

I am back to living the Frugal life. I have always tried to spend our money wisely but lately I feel like we are wasting a lot of money. Food is a big ticket item in our house but one that can be monitored closely and can create savings if we are careful.

Every Friday my plan is to post some way our family has managed to save money. Everything from food to entertainment. At this very moment we are ordering a pair of glasses for Jeremy on line from Zeni Optical. His glasses usually cost us around 100-150+ dollars. We get a good deal from a friend who works for Lens Crafters. You can imagine what I would spend if I didn't get this discount from her. I just ordered Jeremy's new pair on line for 33.00! that was the price with added features. If I purchased just a basic pair with no bells and whistles it would have been cheaper. I will let you know how we like the glasses when they come in. All reviews that I have read on this company have been good.

Stay tuned every Friday for a Frugal tip!

update on the dishwaher episode

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO we were sitting around the dinner table talking about the dishwasher incident when Cristian reveals that it was JOE who bought the two products that looked alike and even figured out in the store that each product was for a different use. SO what happened!

answer: My detective skills tell me that he was in such a hurry to get back to the Superbowl game that he didnt take the time to read the label.....................

Needless to say, we all had another good laugh!

Poor Joe

Three guesses what could have possibly went wrong at the Davis house today. One of these bottles is for dishes and one is for the dishwasher............................ First clue that something is not right!
Big clue that something went terribly wrong!

A sea of bubbles filled my kitchen floor, and you thought the blizzard only happened outside!

I dont own a normal mop, but thank goodness we own a shop vac!

At least Joe wont have to mop the floors tomorrow!

OK- as if things couldn't get worse, when Joe went to get the shop vac out, He must have knocked over the gas can or at least bumped it because now my entire house smells like gasoline! Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

A wonderful snow day

I just love a good snow day. I love that we dont have to be anywhere and can just relax. When I finally got out of bed it was closer to lunch than breakfast but I decided that waffles sounded good. Yummy I made a few batches of pizza dough for tomorrow. This bread maker is older than dirt and still going! Over a year ago it fell off my counter and cracked in certian spots but it still makes a great loaf of bread! I don't know what I will do when it finally dies.
Here is Joey and Isabella having some snuggle time this morning.

I also made homemade meatballs and spaghetti. I sewed a little (post that later) and of course the kids played out in the snow. We will have an early dinner and then hopefully play some board games. HAPPY SNOW DAY!

A Valentine Heart

This heart I made for my Etsy store. (hopefully, I will be able to get it in there on time.) I found this adorable grafic of a dog holding an envelope with a heart and thought it would look cute on a heart pillow. I am also going to be putting the same graphic on a regular pillow (will post that later) close up. If you click on picture it will get bigger.
It is sort of primitive, sort of shabby and a little victorian.
